EPL Round-up: Pulisic shines bright for Chelsea, Jamie VAR-dy denies resurgent Arsenal
Just ask self-confessed Arsenal fan Wilfried Zaha, who, despite his constant flirtations with the Gunners last summer, will still end up spending Valentine’s Day today with Crystal Palace.
It appears the same thing has happened to playmaker Hakim Ziyech, who has agreed to join Chelsea from Ajax Amsterdam in a €44 million (S$66m) deal.
After all, Ziyech had once said in an interview that his “ultimate dream” clubs were Barcelona and Chelsea’s London rivals, Arsenal.
But while Ziyech was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the past two transfer windows, the North London outfit never made a formal offer for the 26-year-old.
Now that the highly-rated Morocco international has joined Chelsea, however, will Arsenal’s failure to seal the deal for Ziyech come back to haunt them?
I mean, just take a look at what Ziyech is capable of doing.
It’s no wonder then that Chelsea were so eager to sign Ziyech. And for those who think that Ziyech didn’t mean to score that free-kick, you might change your mind after checking out some of his other strikes last year.
Given Arsenal’s current woes in front of goal, missing out on Ziyech seems like an unforgivable oversight on their decision makers.
This is especially given that Ziyech is more than just a goal merchant. He’s proven to be quite the accomplished assist merchant as well.
As you would expect, Chelsea fans are already salivating over the prospect of Ziyech linking up with the rest of their star-studded team.
Although some have wondered why the Blues, who are still fighting to finish in the top-four of the English Premier League (EPL), chose to complete the deal for Ziyech two weeks after the close of the January transfer window.
Meanwhile, some Arsenal fans are trying to convince themselves that their club did the right thing in refusing to sign Ziyech.
Guess we can only see if that’s true when Ziyech and Chelsea take on Arsenal next season.
We can’t wait.
