Tottenham's new signing Gedson Fernandes is already a perfect fit for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have signed a player that appears to be a perfect fit for the club in Gedson Fernandes – on an 18-month loan from Benfica, with an option to buy for 50 million euros.

No, it’s not because he’s Portugese like their manager Jose Mourinho. Neither is it because he is the budget option of namesake Bruno, who looks set to join top-four rivals Manchester United.

It’s because in his first interview as a Spurs player, he name-drops Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko as players he knows, having watched some games.

He could have named the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, or even the club’s darling Son Heung-min. But Dier and Sissoko, who are probably the most unfancied players at Tottenham? It doesn’t get more ‘Spursy’ than that!

No wonder his first words after he signed on the dotted line were, “It’s one big dream to come to this big club.”

Fernandes should feel right at home. After all, this is the same club that sold Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier, thinking that Kyle Walker-Peters is good enough to make the right-back spot his own.

And for the benefit of all Spurs fans out there who still have no idea who Fernandes is (but are pretending to), we’ve got you covered. He’s 21, was playing for Benfica in midfield, and has scored just once in 14 matches this season.

At the very least, you do not need to worry about a Mourinho meltdown from lack of signings and backing from the club this season!
