Panic mode at Man Utd as Maguire is ruled out for extended period

It is panic mode for Manchester United now, after Harry Maguire was ruled out of action for an extended period with a torn hip muscle.

The club hasn’t announced how long Maguire will be out for, but it does appear that the world’s most expensive defender will miss the FA Cup third-round replay against Wolves, the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester City and the league encounters against Norwich and Liverpool at the very least.

Maguire also joins a lengthy list of defenders unavailable, alongside fellow defenders Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo. It means that the pairing of Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones, the main cast in the horror show against Man City in the first leg on Wednesday morning (SGT), are the only senior defenders available for selection.

The thought of that has horrified Man Utd fans.

Maguire was injured in the FA Cup third round match against Wolves. The England international had felt discomfort in the first half of the game, but ended up completing the entire game, which reportedly made the injury worse.

Which is evidence of how incompetently run Man Utd is.

Fans, naturally, started asking for the Red Devils to sign a cover for Maguire, too. But with Ed Woodward in charge of signings, they’re asking for a miracle.

Another option: Recall Chris Smalling from AS Roma. Who would have thought, five months after he was forced out of the club, Smalldini is wanted again at Old Trafford?

Like really, really wanted. But with Smalling enjoying life in Rome, we aren’t quite sure if the centre-back wants to return to the Theatre of Nightmare Dreams just yet. Can’t blame him for not wanting to be part of the mess that is Man Utd right now.
